Obverse description A large vignette of the Bank of Scotland head office on the Mound, Edinburgh, rendered in intaglio, occupies the left portion against a multicolour guilloche underprint in olive, gold and brown tones; a watermark portrait of Sir Walter Scott appears at centre, with his name captioned beneath. The denomination numeral '10' is printed in large format at lower left, with 'BANK OF SCOTLAND' running vertically along the left margin, and the Bank's arms at lower right accompanied by the date and place of issue 'Edinburgh'. The promise to pay text, Governor and Treasurer facsimile signatures, and the £10 denomination symbol appear in the upper right field.
