Obverse description At upper left, a vignette of two Māori figures flanked by palm trees and a volcano, with two kiwi birds positioned at lower left. The denomination is rendered in a large guilloche underprint at centre, with the full bank title and promise-to-pay legend distributed across the face. The design is executed in intaglio with fine engraved linework characteristic of Bradbury Wilkinson production.

Reverse description The reverse is printed in golden-brown on a pale green ground, with the words TEN POUNDS rendered in large, ornate letterpress capitals composed entirely of fine repeated guilloche microtext. The numeral 10 appears in circular cartouches at each lateral extremity of the central vignette. A perforated CANCELLED cancellation is applied below the central design.
