The Bank of Ireland's switch to De La Rue for this series in the early 1990s coincided with a broader modernization of Irish note security — the embedded thread here was a meaningful upgrade over the older demetallized strip used in predecessor issues. Production ran only across 1991 and 1992 before the series gave way to updated designs ahead of the preparations for eventual euro transition planning.
Short print window. Circulated examples with intact thread and undamaged watermark area are less common than the issue dates might suggest.
