Bradbury Wilkinson printed for dozens of colonial and dependent territory issuers throughout the postwar decades, but Guernsey's relationship with the firm stretched across multiple series — this note falls within the transitional period when the island's States were quietly consolidating their issuing authority after years of notes circulating alongside UK sterling at par. The watermark security on this series is relatively minimal by the standards of what Bradbury Wilkinson was producing for other clients at the same time.
Guernsey notes of this period are legal tender only on the island itself, a restriction that has always suppressed circulation volumes and, paradoxically, kept survival rates higher than equivalent UK provincial issues.
