Sudan's currency transition of 1955–56 was unusually compressed. The country gained independence on 1 January 1956, but these notes were issued under the Sudan Government imprint before that date — meaning this £10 circulated, at least briefly, under a colonial administrative structure that was already in the process of dissolving. Waterlow & Sons had printed Sudanese notes going back through the Anglo-Egyptian Condominium period, so the relationship was not new.

The P#A5 designation reflects its scarcity in the catalog record; surviving examples are rare enough that auction appearances are infrequent and condition documentation thin.
