Four distinct signature combinations appear across this series, spanning wartime austerity through postwar reconstruction — the Sheehan/McFarlane pairing dates from the early 1940s, while Coombs appears as Governor only from 1949, making the later pairs chronologically tight within the issue window. The ten-pound denomination was the largest circulating note in Australia during this period, making it a high-value instrument used primarily in commercial rather than retail transactions.
Note Printing Branch in Craigieburn had not yet opened; production ran through the Melbourne facility that would later evolve into the dedicated security printing operation. Paper quality on wartime impressions can show browning along folds due to the reduced cotton purity of some wartime stocks.
