The Currency Commission was already in its final years when this note was issued — the Central Bank of Ireland Act 1942 dissolved the Commission and transferred its functions to the newly established Central Bank. Notes of this type remained legal tender well into the new institution's early operation, creating an overlap that collectors sometimes find confusing when dating specimens by circulation wear alone.
Waterlow & Sons had been printing Irish Free State currency since the Commission's earliest series, and the relationship was well-established by the time this £10 was produced. At the £10 level, circulation was always limited — this was a high-value denomination in a country where agricultural wages rarely approached that figure in a week.
