Sudan's 1979 proof and piedfort trial strikes were produced in anticipation of a commemorative currency reform tied to the 15th Islamic century — 1400 AH fell in November 1979, prompting several regional central banks to commission pattern and prueba pieces. The Bank of Sudan's bronze prueba for this denomination almost certainly never progressed to an approved circulating issue, making it effectively an internal trial rather than a public commemorative.
