| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central device features the Sudanese national emblem: a secretary bird with wings displayed, standing upon a shield and surmounted by a scroll bearing an Arabic inscription identifying the Democratic Republic of Sudan. Arabic legend curves around the upper field, with the denomination expressed both in Arabic script as 'جنيهات ١٠' to the lower left and as 'L.s. 10' in Latin numerals to the lower right. The date '١٩٧٩' appears in the lower field alongside the Latin inscription 'SUDAN' and the commemorative legend 'ISLAMIC WORLD 15TH CENTURY' curving along the lower exergue. The coin is bordered by a continuous reeded rim. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents a detailed panoramic view of the Prophet's Mosque (Al-Masjid an-Nabawi) in Medina, with its characteristic minarets, domed roofline, and surrounding walls rendered in fine relief. At the centre, rising above the mosque complex, is an ornate finial or decorative lamp standard from which depend two roundels inscribed in Arabic with 'الله' (God) and 'محمد' (Muhammad). An Arabic inscription appears in the upper field. The composition is enclosed within a reeded border, and the overall design commemorates the beginning of the 15th century of the Islamic Hijri calendar. |

Sudan's 1979 essai issues were produced in anticipation of a coinage reform tied to the Islamic calendar milestone of the 15th Hijri century — 1400 AH fell in November 1979. The Bank of Sudan commissioned trial pieces in multiple metals, aluminium among them, to evaluate designs before committing to production compositions. Aluminium was never selected for circulating currency at this denomination; these pieces exist purely as technical trials.
The dual KM reference reflects ongoing cataloguing ambiguity between Krause editions — the same piece has been listed under both numbers across printings.
