Aanvullende informatie

The Gambier archipelago, a remote cluster of volcanic islands at the southeastern edge of French Polynesia, was the site of one of the most aggressive Catholic missionary campaigns in Pacific history — Father Honoré Laval effectively controlled the islands from 1834 until his forced removal in 1871, reshaping the entire social order. The poe rava, a black pearl harvested from the Pinctada margaritifera oyster, became the economic backbone of the Gambier lagoon long before Tahitian pearl farming industrialized the trade.

This denomination was issued under the Institut d'émission d'outre-mer, which has managed Pacific franc coinage since 1967.
