Predominantly ochre and brown note with an elaborate central guilloche rosette executed in intaglio, flanked by ornate rococo scroll borders. The issuing authority inscription INSTITUT D'EMISSION DES ETATS DU CAMBODGE DU LAOS ET DU VIETNAM arches across the top, with the denomination DIX PIASTRES in bold letterpress to the right of centre. Two signature panels below the guilloche bear the titles PRESIDENT and UN ADMINISTRATEUR, with serial number and series prefix repeated at lower corners and a cautionary anti-counterfeiting legend in a cartouche at the foot. |
The Institut d'Émission des États du Cambodge, du Laos et du Viet-Nam was established in 1952 as France's last institutional attempt to retain monetary control over its Indochinese territories while granting them nominal financial autonomy. The arrangement lasted barely three years before the Associated States began asserting independent central banking authority.
Three distinct national variants of this denomination were issued — Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam each received notes tailored for local circulation. Thomas De La Rue produced all three, which occasionally creates confusion when examples surface without complete documentation.
