The slogan 'IN TREUE FEST!' arches in bold capitals across the top, followed by a patriotic appeal urging readers to support the forthcoming Upper Silesia plebiscite and to send donations to the regional collection office. The printer's imprint 'Pansa'sche Buchdruckerei, Magdeburg' appears in small type at the foot of the note.

Comments

Hans Gaertner was a Magdeburg merchant or business proprietor who issued this note during the height of the small-denomination Notgeld wave, when the German Reichsbank's coin shortage left retailers no practical alternative but to print their own change. The Pansa'sche Buchdruckerei was a local Magdeburg press, making this an entirely regional production — printed, issued, and presumably spent within a few city blocks.

The embedded postage stamp as a security feature is the detail worth noting. By incorporating an actual stamp into the note's construction, Gaertner tied its value to a state-backed instrument while simultaneously making counterfeiting impractical for anyone without access to genuine postal material.
