Obverse description Octagonal zinc notgeld token with a plain, utilitarian design. The large numeral '10' dominates the central field within a beaded inner circle. The issuer's name 'C. CONRADTY' arcs along the upper periphery, while 'GRÜNTHAL' curves along the lower periphery, both separated from the central device by a continuous beaded border. The overall relief is shallow and the design is boldly struck in an industrial style consistent with wartime emergency coinage.

Reverse description The reverse of this octagonal zinc notgeld token features the large numeral '10' prominently displayed in the center of the field, enclosed within a beaded circular border. The circumferential legend 'KLEINGELDERSATZMARKE' runs around the upper and lateral periphery, indicating its status as a small change substitute token. Three small stars or asterisks are evenly spaced along the lower margin outside the beaded border. The design is plain and functional, with no additional decorative elements, reflecting the austerity of emergency wartime issue.

Additional information

C. Conradty was a major German manufacturer of carbon and graphite products — pencil leads, electrodes, arc lamp carbons — headquartered in Grünthal, Bavaria. Like many industrial firms during WWI and its aftermath, Conradty issued its own notgeld tokens to compensate for the chronic shortage of small state coinage, paying workers in scrip redeemable only at company facilities. Zinc was the material of necessity; copper and nickel had been requisitioned for the war effort years earlier.
