The III. Armeekorps inspection authority issued its own camp currency rather than relying on centralized Prussian military administration — a common enough arrangement by 1917, when the sheer volume of prisoners held across German-administered camps had long outpaced any unified supply system. Kirchhain in Niederlausitz was a practical choice for small-run emergency printing; Ambrosius & Co. handled numerous regional Notgeld and camp currency contracts during the war years.
Frankfurt an der Oder housed predominantly Russian prisoners following the Eastern Front campaigns. By 1917, Russian captive labor was being integrated into agricultural and industrial work details across Brandenburg, which made a functioning internal currency — controlling purchasing power within the wire — administratively useful rather than merely symbolic.
