C. Lorenz AG was a major Berlin electronics and telecommunications firm — later absorbed into ITT — that issued canteen tokens to manage internal purchasing during the tight rationing and currency disruptions of the World War II period. Zinc was the wartime substitute for practically every non-ferrous metal diverted to armaments production, which dates this piece as firmly as any archive record could.
