Löbejün was a small town in the Prussian province of Saxony — population well under a thousand in 1920 — which makes its appearance on a notgeld issue entirely unremarkable. Hundreds of similarly tiny municipalities issued emergency small-change notes that year as Germany's coin shortage, a direct consequence of wartime metal requisitioning and postwar hoarding, left ordinary commerce functionally paralyzed at the pfennig level.
Gebrüder Parcus of Munich was one of the more prolific notgeld printers of the period, handling contracts for municipalities across Germany. Their output was competent and consistent, if rarely distinguished.
