Zobten am Berge — now Sobótka in southwestern Poland — issued this Notgeld during the postwar inflationary spiral that forced hundreds of German municipalities to print their own fractional currency when small change effectively vanished from circulation. The Stadthauptkasse, the municipal treasury, acted under the authority of the Magistrat, a standard administrative arrangement for small Silesian towns of this size.
Silesian Notgeld from 1919 is generally common, but issues from smaller Zobten am Berge are less frequently encountered than those from larger regional centers like Breslau.
