Obverse description Cream-toned notgeld issued on a light green underprint, with the denomination '10 Pfennig' rendered in bold Gothic script flanking a central vignette of the Thale civic coat of arms supported by two lions rampant, surmounted by a standing allegorical figure; a circular legend in small Gothic lettering runs around the vignette. The lower panel carries the validity date, issuing authority, date of issue (1 Januar 1921), and the facsimile signature of the Bürgermeister, with the printer's imprint 'Druckerei Appelhans, Braunschweig' at the foot.

Reverse description The reverse presents a richly detailed letterpress vignette in dark brown on a pale green underprint, centred on a dramatic rocky gorge landscape — almost certainly the Bodetal valley near Thale — with tall craggy rock formations and pine trees rendered in fine cross-hatching. Flanking the central scene are two narrow pillar-framed panels: the left panel shows a witch conversing with a grotesque figure accompanied by a black cat, above a horseshoe motif; the right panel shows a demonic creature, above a foliate ornament. A horse and rider in flight and a smaller airborne figure animate the upper sky of the central vignette, evoking Walpurgis Night folklore. The denomination '10' appears in stylised numerals within green corner cartouches at upper left and upper right.
