Zörbig is a small town in Saxony-Anhalt, and its municipal authority issued this note during the acute coin shortage that gripped Germany in the early Weimar period — federal minting simply could not keep pace with demand, pushing hundreds of municipalities to print their own low-denomination Kleingeldersatz. H. F. Jütte of Leipzig was one of the more prolific printers of this genre, handling notgeld commissions for numerous Saxon and central German towns simultaneously in 1921.
The DeNG 2#1475.2 reference distinguishes this from at least one other Zörbig issue in the same series.
