Obverse description Imperial German eagle displayed in the field, bearing a large central shield on its breast, with wings spread and head turned. The mintmark appears on either side of the tail feathers. The design reflects the heraldic style of the German Empire under Wilhelm I.

Reverse description The large numeral '10' dominates the central field in bold relief. The legend DEUTSCHES REICH arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 1874 following along the right side. The denomination PFENNIG is inscribed along the lower periphery, flanked on each side by a raised dot separator. A fine rope or beaded border frames the entire design.
