Obverse description Central shield bearing the coat of arms of Wattenscheid, depicting Saint Gertrude standing full-length, robed, holding a staff and accompanied by a small animal at her feet, flanked by foliage elements on either side of the shield. A mural crown surmounts the shield at top. The city name legend 'STADT WATTENSCHEID' arcs around the lower half of the design in bold Latin letters, running from the lower left to the lower right of the field. The overall composition is rendered in moderate relief with fine detail on the heraldic elements.
