Additional information

Uffenheim is a small Franconian market town, and its 1917 notgeld issue belongs to the first wave of municipal emergency coinage that swept Germany after the Imperial government's wartime requisition of copper and nickel stripped local commerce of small change. Zinc was the fallback material for hundreds of towns scrambling to keep market transactions functional. The Funck reference 555.2 indicates a catalogued variety — Uffenheim apparently struck more than one type — suggesting the town's need was sustained enough to warrant multiple emission runs.
