Additional information

Teterow is a small Mecklenburg market town best known in Germany for the satirical figure of the Teterower Bockspringer — locals who, legend has it, leaped over their own goat rather than lead it around a barrier. The iron notgeld issued by the city falls squarely within the municipal emergency coinage wave of 1917–1921, when the wartime metal requisitions and subsequent economic collapse left hundreds of German towns with no legal tender small enough for daily transactions. Iron was the default because copper and nickel had long since been redirected to the war effort.
