The Rostocker Bank was one of the older private note-issuing institutions in the German states, but by 1920 it was operating in a monetary environment it was never designed for. This 10 Pfennig note belongs to the Kleingeldersatz issues — small-denomination emergency paper produced across Germany to fill the vacuum left by hoarded and melted coinage during the inflationary turbulence that followed the First World War.
