Porz am Rhein's Spiegelglaswerke Germania was a major mirror and plate glass producer operating in the Rhineland, and like hundreds of German industrial firms during the post-WWI Notgeld period, it issued its own emergency coinage when small-denomination Reichsmark coins vanished from circulation. Zinc was the practical choice — strategic metals were still constrained by postwar material shortages, and zinc could be worked cheaply in modest quantities. These factory-issued tokens circulated among workers as wage scrip redeemable at company facilities.
