Additional information

Küttner was a textile manufacturing firm in Pirna, Saxony, and this zinc piece is a Kriegsgeld notgeld token — privately issued to alleviate the acute small-change shortage that gripped Germany from 1916 onward as copper and nickel were redirected entirely to the war effort. Municipal and commercial issuers across Germany flooded circulation with zinc, iron, and pressed-paper substitutes. The Pirna issue is catalogued under two Menzel reference numbers, suggesting a documented die or planchet variant between editions.
