10 Pfennig - Ostrowo

Ostrowo (now Ostrów Wielkopolski, Poland) was part of the Province of Posen — a territory Prussia had absorbed in the partitions of Poland and held uneasily through sustained Polish nationalist resistance. When the First World War disrupted metal supplies and small change vanished into hoarding, individual German districts were authorized to issue their own emergency coinage, or Notgeld. Kreis Ostrowo was among hundreds of such local authorities scrambling to keep commerce moving.

The two Men18 reference numbers indicate at least two die variants exist for this type — worth examining closely before cataloging.
