| Obverse description | Red and black letterpress printing on plain paper stock. The centre is dominated by the red shield of the Mainz coat of arms — two wheels and a cross — flanked on either side by ornate calligraphic numeral '10' vignettes with decorative scroll flourishes. The title 'Notgeld der Stadt Mainz' is printed in bold red Fraktur script across the top, with the issue date 'Mainz, 1. April 1921' and the Oberbürgermeister's facsimile signature printed below on either side of the arms. A serial number appears at the bottom centre, with validity text running along all four margins in vertical and horizontal orientations. |
