Karl Dürrwanger was a Munich-based merchant or tradesman who issued notgeld during the acute small-change shortages of the early Weimar period, when municipal and private emergency coinage briefly filled the gap left by hoarded Imperial-era coins. Zinc was the material of necessity — copper and nickel had been requisitioned for the war effort years earlier, and zinc tokens were cheap enough to produce in small quantities without official mint facilities.
The Menzel catalog reference places this among documented private issues, though Dürrwanger himself remains obscure beyond the token record.
