Grohmann & Frosch was a Leipzig-Plagwitz textile firm that issued emergency coinage — Notgeld — during the acute small-change shortages that gripped Germany in the early 1920s. Private industrial companies across Saxony routinely stepped in to mint their own tokens when the Reichsbank could not keep fractional coinage in circulation, redeeming them against wages or company store credit. Zinc was the pragmatic choice: cheap, available, and fast to strike in small quantities.
