Obverse description The obverse features a plain outer border of fine milling enclosing a raised pearl (beaded) circle, within which the large numeral '10' is prominently displayed in the central field. The circular legend MAGISTRAT DER STADT LANDSBERG A/W. runs between the beaded circle and the milled rim, interrupted at the base by a six-pointed star. The design is entirely typographic, with no pictorial elements, consistent with the utilitarian character of German First World War municipal notgeld coinage.

Additional information

Landsberg an der Warthe issued zinc notgeld in 1917 under the same wartime metal shortages that forced hundreds of German municipalities to produce their own emergency coinage after copper and nickel were requisitioned for military production. The Magistrat's issue follows the broader pattern of Prussian town authorities stepping in when the central mint infrastructure could no longer supply low-denomination coins to local commerce. Zinc was the default fallback — cheap, workable, and sufficiently abundant despite its own growing industrial demand.
