Obverse description A beaded border frames the entire obverse. The municipal coat of arms of Kreuznach occupies the central field, depicting a shield charged with two crosses in chief, a battlemented wall in fess, and a single cross in base, surmounted by a mural crown of three towers. The Latin legend STADT KREUZNACH curves along the lower arc of the border, flanked by small ornamental stops at either side.

Reverse description A beaded border encircles the reverse. The word NOTGELD arcs prominently across the upper field in bold capital letters. The large numeral 10 dominates the central field, with the denomination inscription PFENNIG arranged in a straight line across the lower portion of the coin. The overall design is plain and utilitarian, consistent with wartime emergency coinage.
