| Obverse description | The obverse displays the elaborate coat of arms of the city of Hof an der Saale at center, featuring a shield bearing a lion passant set within an ornate architectural composition. Flanking the shield are two armored knights acting as supporters, each holding a lance or staff, while two coniferous trees rise to either side, lending a heraldic, sylvan character to the design. Behind the central shield rises a three-towered castle or gatehouse with onion-domed turrets, evoking the historic cityscape of Hof. The date appears in a recessed cartouche or panel along the lower portion of the design.
