Obverse description The obverse is printed in green and black on white paper, dominated by an oval vignette of a panoramic townscape of Ilmenau set within a wooded Thuringian valley, framed by a wreath of foliage rendered in green letterpress. Two pink ribbon banderoles arc above the vignette, each carrying a poetic inscription in black Gothic script. The legend NOTGELD · STADT · ILMENAU appears in bold black capitals across the top, while the denomination "10" and "Pfg." are set in large white numerals and letters at the lower left and right respectively, with the printer's imprint "Schneider & Co., Ilmenau i. Thür." in small type at the lower right margin.
Obverse lettering NOTGELD · STADT · ILMENAU
Immerhin ist du immergrüner Hain, Mein Herz begrüßt euch wieder auf das Beste,
Nehmt mühselig schwerbehangnen Äste, Nehmt freundlich mich in eure Schatten ein.
10 Pfg.
Schneider & Co., Ilmenau i. Thür.
Reverse description The reverse is printed in green and black, with the bold heading ZEHN PFENNIG in large black capitals across the top on a green ground. The central vignette, set within a beaded circular frame, presents the municipal coat of arms of Ilmenau — a quartered shield supported by two flanking tower structures — on a green guilloche underprint background patterned with repeated "10 Pfg." numerals. The serial number appears vertically at the left, the issue date "1. JANUAR 1921" vertically at the right, and below the vignette a validity notice and the manuscript signature of the Stadtgemeindevorstand are printed in black.
