Obverse description Within a plain raised rim, the large numeral '10' occupies the central field in bold raised relief. The circular legend 'STADT DONAUESCHINGEN' arcs around the upper periphery, with a small lozenge ornament separating the end of the inscription. The design is austere and utilitarian, consistent with wartime Notgeld production.

Additional information

Donaueschingen issued this iron notgeld piece in 1918 as the German war economy stripped conventional coinage metals from circulation entirely. The city sits at the claimed source of the Danube — a geographic distinction the municipal authorities were not shy about exploiting on local emergency issues. Iron was the material of last resort by this point; nickel had disappeared years earlier, and zinc was increasingly reserved for war production.
