Aanvullende informatie

Dieburg's 1920 notgeld coinage was part of the vast wave of municipal emergency money issued across Germany as the Weimar government struggled to keep small-denomination coinage in circulation. Iron was the material of necessity — copper and nickel had been systematically stripped from the civilian economy during the war years and had not returned. The district, located in Hesse, was among hundreds of small administrative units forced to become de facto mints simply to make change possible.
