| Aanvullende informatie |
Kalle & Co. was a chemical manufacturer founded in Biebrich in 1863, best known for producing synthetic dyes and, later, photographic and reprographic materials. Like many German industrial firms, the company issued its own emergency currency — Notgeld — during the shortages that followed World War I, when the imperial coinage system could no longer supply enough small-denomination pieces to meet everyday transactional needs. Nickel-plated zinc was a predictable substitute given wartime metal requisitioning.
