Beuthen an der Oder — not to be confused with the larger Beuthen in Upper Silesia — issued this small-denomination Notgeld during the inflationary emergency period when coin shortages made low-value paper a practical necessity across hundreds of German municipalities. Carl Flemming & T. C. Wiskott was a respected Glogau printing house with a strong regional footprint in Silesia, responsible for a significant volume of municipal emergency issues in this period. The watermarked paper is notable for a denomination this modest — many comparable Notgeld issues dispensed with security features entirely.
