Manoli was one of Berlin's major cigarette manufacturers in the early twentieth century, operating factory canteens — Kantinen — that issued their own token currency to manage employee purchases on-site. These zinc pieces circulated exclusively within the canteen's controlled economy, redeemable for food, drink, or goods rather than wages. The shift to zinc almost certainly reflects wartime or postwar metal shortages, placing this issue most plausibly in the 1914–1923 window.
Menser's reference numbers pin it firmly within the documented Berlin private token series, but surviving examples are rarely traced back to specific canteen records.
