Grimma, a small administrative district in Saxony, issued this note under the Königliche Amtshauptmannschaft — the royal district authority — in 1918, precisely the kind of hyperlocal emergency currency that proliferated across Germany as the war drained coin metal from circulation. The Graphische Werke GmbH in Dresden handled enormous volumes of Notgeld production for Saxon municipalities that year, which is why their output, though technically competent, tends toward the workmanlike rather than the elaborate.
At 46 × 34 mm, this is among the smallest Notgeld formats produced — less paper, less cost, and harder to counterfeit convincingly at scale.
