Friedeberg in der Neumark — now Strzelce Krajeńskie in western Poland — was one of hundreds of small German municipalities forced into emergency currency production during the postwar coinage famine of 1919–1921. The chronic shortage of metal small change drove town administrations across Germany to commission local or regional printers for Kleingeldersatz notes, and Selmar Bayer's Berlin operation handled a significant share of this municipal work.

Nothing technically exceptional distinguishes this issue, but its geographic fate does. The town passed to Poland after 1945 under the Potsdam territorial adjustments, and most surviving civic records — including print run documentation — were lost or scattered in that transition.
