| Описание оборотной стороны | Blue, brown and white pictorial reverse with the town name split GRAEFEN= at upper left and HAINICHEN at upper right, flanked by decorative blue foliate scrollwork in the corners, and the year 19 / 21 divided to either side. Two pen-and-ink style architectural vignettes occupy the lower half: the Rathaus (Town Hall) on the left with its distinctive steeple, and Paul Gerhardt's Geburtshaus (birthplace) on the right, both rendered in a detailed linear style. Between and above the buildings, an ornate baroque cartouche with acanthus-leaf surround carries a Latin inscription recording the destruction and rebuilding of the Gräfenhainichen court in 1637 and 1696 under Elector Friedrich August of Saxony. |

Gräfenhainichen is a small industrial town in Saxony-Anhalt, and this 10 Pfennig note is a product of the Kleingeldersatz crisis that paralyzed German retail commerce in the early 1920s. Metal coin shortages — caused by hoarding, wartime disruption, and rampant inflation — forced thousands of municipalities to print their own small-denomination paper substitutes. H. Schiebel in nearby Bitterfeld was a regional jobbing printer frequently contracted for exactly this kind of local emergency issue.
The watermark is a meaningful detail here: most Notgeld at this denomination dispensed with security features entirely, making its presence on a Kleingeldschein from a minor municipality genuinely uncommon.
