| Vorderseitenbeschreibung | Light blue note with an ornate black border incorporating scallop-pattern guilloche and octagonal floral corner medallions. The denomination numeral '10' appears in large bold gothic typeface at left and right, with 'Pfennig' inscribed below each. At centre, a circular medieval city seal vignette set against a dark square cartouche shows a crowned figure within a fortified gate, surrounded by a Latin legend. Below, a three-line redemption text in German script gives the validity date and issuing authority, with the date 'Osterwieck/Harz, 1. Januar 1921' and the facsimile signature of Der Magistrat. |

| Rückseitenbeschreibung | Predominantly dark-toned note with a central panoramic vignette in light blue and black, reproducing an old engraving of the town of Osterwieck as seen from across a river on 6 August 1641, framed by stylised tree branches. A curved banner at top carries the issuer's name in large gothic lettering, with octagonal denomination tablets at upper left and right. A Low German verse inscription appears below the panorama, and the denomination 'ZEHNPFENNIG' is set in bold block capitals within a rectangular panel at the foot of the note. |

Osterwieck is a small town in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt, and like hundreds of German municipalities in 1921, it issued its own emergency paper fractional currency — Kleingeldscheine — to relieve the acute coin shortage that followed postwar remonetization chaos. The Reichsbank simply could not produce enough low-denomination coin to meet everyday transactional demand, and municipalities were legally permitted to fill the gap locally.
A. W. Zickfeldt was Osterwieck's own press, making this a genuinely local production from design through distribution. Signed by Maurich and Schulze, presumably municipal officials, though their exact roles are unrecorded.
