| Descrizione del dritto | Central vignette depicts a woman in traditional North Sea island dress, standing waist-deep in the surf while holding her wide-brimmed hat against the wind, with a sailing vessel visible on the sea behind her. The denomination '10 Pfennig' appears in bold Gothic lettering within framed panels at upper left and upper right, with the text 'Gutschein der Inselgemeinde' at left and 'über zehn Pfennig' at right. A solid banner along the lower portion carries the issuer name 'Norderney' in large decorative Fraktur script, flanked by diamond ornaments, against a light blue ground with a dotted border enclosing the entire design. |

Norderney, one of the East Frisian Islands in the North Sea, issued this note during the Kleingeldnotgeld period of 1921, when chronic small-denomination coin shortages forced hundreds of German municipalities to print their own emergency fractional currency. The island had been a fashionable resort destination since the early 19th century — Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia was an early visitor — but by 1921 it was an isolated community dealing with the same inflationary pressures grinding down every small German town.
Gebrüder Jänecke of Hannover were prolific Notgeld printers, responsible for a substantial portion of Lower Saxony's municipal emergency issues during this period.
