| Descrizione del dritto | The upper portion carries a central circular vignette framed by a wreath of grain ears, enclosing a cockerel perched on a mound with the legend 'Gemeinde Schmiedefeld' arching above; flanking the vignette are detailed letterpress illustrations of laboratory and scientific glassware — including flasks, burettes, graduated cylinders, and thermometers — alluding to the local glass industry. A broad pink underprint covers the lower half, where bold Gothic script reads 'Notgeld der Gemeinde Schmiedefeld' followed by the subtitle 'Glasindustrie- u. Luftkurort 720 m.ü.d.M.'; the denomination 'Zehn Pfennig' appears in decorative cartouches at lower left and right, with validity and issuing authority text in the centre. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse is divided into three pictorial panels against a pink underprint: at left, a stone tower captioned 'Turm od. Adlersberg'; at centre, a scenic landscape vignette of a tree-lined park with a bridge over a stream, labelled 'Blödners Anlagen'; and at right, a large villa or guesthouse captioned 'Stutenhaus'. A text panel below the vignettes carries a two-line verse in Gothic script, and the denomination numeral '10' appears in a black cartouche at upper left with the abbreviation 'Pfg' in a matching cartouche at upper right. |

Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig is a small village in the Thuringian Forest, and this note is a product of the postwar Kleingeldnot — the acute small-change shortage that gripped Germany from 1916 onward as metal coins disappeared from circulation. Thousands of municipalities, utilities, and private firms issued their own Notgeld to plug the gap, and by 1921 the phenomenon had become something closer to a collector craze than a genuine monetary emergency.
Most 1921 Kleingeldnotgeld was printed in large runs specifically for the philatelic trade, never intended to change hands at a bakery counter. Schmiedefeld's issue fits squarely in that wave.
