Triebes is a small industrial town in Thuringia, and this 10 Pfennig note is a product of the 1921 Kleingeldersatz crisis — the near-total disappearance of low-denomination coinage from circulation as postwar inflation eroded the metal value of small change. Municipal savings banks across Germany were authorized to fill the gap with locally issued notgeld, and the Städtische Sparkasse Triebes did exactly that. Otto Henning A.G. in nearby Greiz was a regional commercial printer that handled a substantial volume of Thuringian notgeld during this period.
At this scale, survival is largely a matter of luck — most pieces were redeemed and pulped when the issuing authority's obligation expired.
