Oschersleben's 1921 Notgeld issue came at the height of Germany's small-change famine, when coin metal had been hoarded or melted and municipal authorities across the country were left to fill the gap themselves. The Magistrat here turned to Faber in Magdeburg — a practical choice given the town's proximity to that city — rather than one of the larger specialist Notgeld printers working out of Berlin or Leipzig.
The DeNG reference suffix "-2/4" indicates this is the second of four known variants within the 1028.3a grouping, distinctions that typically reflect print run differences, paper stock changes, or minor typographic variations rather than separate authorized issues.
