Obverse description Dark blue letterpress on light grey guilloche underprint. The denomination '10 PFENNIG' is set in large bold type at centre-left, with the serial number printed below in a hatched panel. To the right stands a full-length vignette of Jan von Werth, the celebrated Cologne cavalry general, rendered in fine line engraving. The upper and lower borders carry the inscription 'STADT KÖLN 1921' in white letters on a dark band, while the series letter and number appear in red at upper right. A red circular official municipal stamp is applied at lower left, alongside the manuscript signature of the Oberbürgermeister and the printed name 'J. v. Werth' in a framed tablet beneath the figure.
Obverse lettering STADT KÖLN 1921 Gutschein über 10 PFENNIG. B 42 No. 172713 Dieser Gutschein wird von allen städtischen Kassen in Zahlung genommen. Er verliert seine Gültigkeit einen Monat nach Aufkündigung in den Kölner Ortsblättern. Die Stadtgemeinde Köln haftet für die Einlösung. Köln, den 13. Juli 1921. Reverse description Printed entirely in blue-grey on a dense microtext underprint repeating 'STADT KÖLN'. A central arched vignette illustrates the folkloric scene of 'Heimkehr' (the homecoming), showing Jan and Griet as figures in a medieval gateway setting, captioned 'JAN UN GRIET' below. The denomination numeral '10' appears in each of the four corners within circular cartouches. Two rectangular text panels flank the central vignette, carrying the Cologne dialect captions associated with the Jan-un-Griet legend.
