Amtshauptmannschaft Zwickau was an administrative district in Saxony, and like hundreds of similar local authorities across Germany in 1920, it issued small-denomination Notgeld to address a genuine coin shortage — not as a collector exercise, though the collecting craze that followed meant many were never spent. The 10 Pfennig denomination was the workhorse of this emergency currency wave, used for tram fares, bread rolls, and small market transactions while metal coinage had effectively vanished from daily commerce.
Zwickau district issues from this period are modestly scarce compared to the heavily printed tourist-targeted Notgeld from larger Saxon cities.
