| 裏面の説明 | The reverse is divided into a central double-vignette panel framed by a dotted ornamental border, presenting two letterpress vignettes: at left, an industrial factory complex with smoking chimneys, and at right, a scientific microscope, alluding to Wetzlar's renowned optical and industrial heritage. Flanking the central panel are two lateral cartouches each bearing the numeral '10' in red within a circular frame, with subsidiary vignettes of a factory skyline and crossed mining hammers at upper and lower left, and a pair of binoculars and a lens element at upper and lower right. The serial number 'BNo' appears at the top, with the denomination 'Zehn-Pfennig' and the legend 'Gutschein der Stadt Wetzlar' in bold Gothic script below the central vignettes. |

Wetzlar's 1920 Notgeld series emerged from the acute small-change shortage that gripped German municipalities in the immediate post-war years — Reichsbank coin had largely vanished from circulation through hoarding, melting, and wartime requisition. Thousands of German towns issued their own emergency paper in this period, but Wetzlar's output was printed locally by Scharfes, which was uncommon; many comparable towns contracted Leipzig or Berlin printers.
Wetzlar issues from this period are not considered scarce as a type, but the local print run figures were never formally documented.
